Acts I, II and III: A memoir
by Lynne Pitcaithley

book cover

This memoir was written by a former Carlsbad resident who was an influential educator for 50 years, very active in local theater, and had a great passion for animals. This passion got her a position on the local shelter board and well into her 90s, Mrs. Pitcaithley volunteered many hours to the Cat's Meow thrift store which helped raise money for the local shelter. I had the privilege to meet Mrs. Pitcaithley when she was in her 90s. She was there at the mall or PetSense when Mr. School dressed as Santa and posed with the pets for pictures. She autographed the copy of the book I just read and it's definitely a keeper.

This book was set back in 1784 outside London in the country. Tiffany’s brother was the Liberian for the dike in their town. She took care of her brother’s household because she was a spinster only because the gentelman she was engaged to died before they married. Her brother, she found out later after assuming his identity because he died was poisoned. Through her and the constables sleuthing they were determined to find out who murdered him along with the other servants in the dukes household. Her friend from younger years who became a Duchess of which was having an affair with the Duke snubbed her years later when she stepped into the role of a Duchess often pulled pranks like disguising Tiffany as her brother so she decided why not be him now. At times… it was very comical going in between her and his roles. A very good read!

This is the third book in the series. The series has been recommended to me many times. Jim Butcher writes well and James Marsters is a fabulous narrator.

This one because of art and forgies not like the one before dealing with history and family property heritage although this was her uncles heritage in painting. A donated art piece gets stolen that was donated to the festival fundraiser from her uncles collection which is intertwined with the murder. Satan, You Can't Have My Marriage
by Iris Delgado

So-so and it seemed like the author kept bouncing around. I didn't know where she wad going with her point. Yet, there were some good nuggets of truth that I can apply to my walk with God and to improve my marriage. In order to appreciate some of those golden nuggets, I had to bypass some of the stuff I didn't agree with such as gender stereotypes. The author seemed to be stuck in the 1950s.

The Kingdom, The Power, And The Glory
by Tim Alberta

Excellent book in which the author explains how American Christians became obsessed with politics. The son of a Presbyterian pastor in a Michigan church, Alberta also reflects on his Christian upbringing which is nowhere the same as the faith of many of the pastors and Christian influencers he had interviewed over a several year period. This book has shown me that I can be a follower of Christ without becoming obsessed with American politics. A must read especially with the 2024 election coming.
